Michael Jordan shocked the NBA by retiring to try minor-league baseball. Houston rocketed through the open door to win its first NBA title. Orlando’s Shaquille O’Neal outscored and out-rebounded the league MVP, Hakeem Olajuwon (27.3 ppg, 11.9 ppg), but was denied the scoring title when San Antonio’s David Robinson scored 71 points in the final game. Seattle led all teams with 63 wins.
