Hockey Seasons
1998-99 Hockey Windows Season
- Dallas wins 1st Stanley Cup on Hull’s goal in triple-OT
- MVP Jagr wins 2nd of 4 straight scoring titles
- Gretzky’s final season
The last full season of the 20th Century ended with the torch passing from the NHL’s all-time scorer, Wayne Gretzky, to the new dominant scorer, Jaromir Jagr. So much more changed. After leading the season with 114 points, Dallas was the first team south of Philadelphia to win the Stanley Cup. The NHL’s realignment to six divisions also brought dramatic facelifts to the standings: Ottawa improved 20 points to a division-winning 103; Carolina 12 points to a division-winning 86; and Toronto 28 points to 97.
