STRAT-O-MATIC UNVEILS NEW DIGITAL MUSEUM
GLEN HEAD, NY – March 11, 2010 – Strat-O-Matic Game Company, the leading producer of sports board and text-based computer and Internet games, is thrilled to announce the opening of the Strat-O-Matic Digital Museum on the company’s website at strat-o-matic.com. The Museum, which can be accessed by clicking on the “Community” tab, followed by “Strat-O-Museum” on the left sidebar, will feature everything from old Strat-O-Matic advertisements, press releases, newspaper and online articles written about the Company, fan letters throughout the years, other forms of media commemorating the history of the company and a plethora of photos.
The Company began designing the Museum as early as June 2010, when interns started the long and grueling process of scanning fifty years worth of every single relevant document and photo stored away in the Company’s 8,600 square foot warehouse in Glen Head, NY.
Also included in the Digital Museum are old Strat-O-Matic fan magazines such as StratFan Magazine and Strat-O-Matic Review (more StratFan Magazines and Strat-O-Matic Reviews will be added to the Museum in the coming months). For those who have a fond appreciation for looking back at old seasons, the Strat-O-Matic Digital Museum also features a “Roster Sheet Archive,” where fans can access and print out every single baseball roster sheet, football roster sheet, and ballpark and weather effect chart that the company has ever printed.
Lastly, the Digital Museum features a series of dynamic photo galleries, which include pictures of old Strat-O-Matic apparel, game boxes throughout the years from every sport, and photos from various Strat-O Opening Days. In addition, the website has a separate tab devoted entirely to photos from the Company’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, which took place at the Community Church of New York in Manhattan back on February 12th.

Strat-O-Matic was invented by 11-year-old Hal Richman in his bedroom in Great Neck, NY in 1948 because he became frustrated by the statistical randomness of other baseball board games. He discovered the statistical predictability of dice would give his game the realism he craved. Over the next decade he perfected the game at summer camp and then as a student at Bucknell University. After producing All-Star sets in 1961 and ‘62, he parlayed a $5,000 loan from his father (and made a deal that if it didn’t work out he would work for his father’s insurance company) into the original 1962 Strat-O-Matic Baseball season game.
