STRAT-O-MATIC RELEASES NEW ‘3-MINUTE BASEBALL’ GAME ON FIVE PLATFORMS

GLEN HEAD, NY – May 16, 2011 – Strat-O-Matic Media, LLC, the top-seller of sports board and text-based digital games, announced today the release of its new “3-Minute Baseball” game on five platforms: the iPhone, iPad, Facebook, Strat-O-Matic website and National Baseball Hall of Fame website.

3-Minute Baseball, which gives users a taste of Strat-O-Matic Baseball, was designed as a free, casual and easy-to-access way of introducing baseball fans to the Strat-O-Matic brand. The game features two different teams with ten total players—five hitters versus five pitchers. There is a degree of variation amongst each of the hitters, whether it’s the mix of left-handed and right-handed batters, or the fact that some hit for power and others hit for a high average (or a low average). Amongst the pitchers, which include both starters and relievers, there is also a mix of southpaws and right-handers.

The game itself is extremely quick and easy to play. The objective is to score as many points as possible before all of the batters are retired. The gamer will first select one of the five hitters, and then choose the pitcher he feels the hitter has the best chance of reaching base against. Once the matchup has been chosen, the game begins when the user presses a dice button. A white die is then rolled, which determines the column the result will come from. After that, two red dice are rolled to determine the row. The final result is found on a grid in the column and row determined by the dice, which is clearly displayed on the screen.

All five batters get three outs and can obtain a certain amount of points based on the outcome of each at-bat. Once three outs have been recorded against a particular batter, a new hitter and pitcher must be selected, while the original pair cannot be reused for the rest of the game. As soon as all of the batters and pitchers have been used, the game is over. At the end of each game, depending on the user’s score, he/she may have the opportunity to put his name on the high score Leader Board.

In honor of the 25th Anniversary of the 1986 World Series, the two baseball teams currently featured in the iPad, iPhone, Facebook and Strat-O website platforms of 3-Minute Baseball are five hitters from the 1986 New York Mets and five pitchers from the 1986 Boston Red Sox— the two participants in the ‘86 Fall Classic. The teams and players, however, will be changed on each of these four platforms every two weeks, with the same data set loaded on each platform (the next data set will be accessible on Tuesday, May 31st). In addition, the game will feature a scrolling promotional banner at the bottom of the page with discounts on Strat-O-Matic products that will be updated every two weeks. For those who use Safari as their main web browser, be sure to turn off your pop up blocker setting in order to access the discounts.

Strat-O-Matic 3-Minute Baseball will run on the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s website with a data set exclusively featuring Hall of Fame players. This data will be changed every two months.

This casual game is fun and challenging at the same time. It is fast to play and topical in its subject matter on current baseball happenings and historical landmarks. And of course, the game is another way to explore a healthy addiction to our nation’s pastime.

About Strat-O-Matic
Strat-O-Matic was invented by 11-year-old Hal Richman in his bedroom in Great Neck, NY in 1948 because he became frustrated by the statistical randomness of other baseball board games.  He discovered the statistical predictability of dice would give his game the realism he craved.  Over the next decade he perfected the game at summer camp and then as a student at Bucknell University.  After producing All-Star sets in 1961 and ‘62, he parlayed a $5,000 loan from his father (and made a deal that if it didn’t work out he would work for his father’s insurance company) into the original 1962 Strat-O-Matic Baseball season game. Needless to say Hal never had to take a job with his father.

Strat-O-Matic, based in Glen Head, NY and on the Internet at www.strat-o-matic.com, produces the top selling sports board games and is the leading producer of realism/stats sports computer games. The company publishes baseball, football, basketball and hockey games to play both on and off your computer screen. “Strat-O” games are known throughout the sports community for their statistical realism and accuracy. The company has the world’s greatest sports game stat libraries with top-of-the-line seasons dating back to the early 1900’s.  On the Internet, the company has partnered with The Sporting News to create innovative fantasy/simulation games and previously with Sports Illustrated Kids to produce a line of new fantasy sports games for a younger demographic.  Recently the company released Strat-O-Matic Negro Leagues, the first sports simulation game to accurately reflect more than 100 Negro League players who never had the chance to show their skills in the major leagues. All Strat-O products are available in both board and computer game formats.

The company has a loyal celebrity following including a bevy of sportscaster and sports journalists like Bob Costas, Buzz Bissinger, Jon Miller, former MLB’ers Keith Hernandez, Doug Glanville, Cal Ripken; and sports super fans including Bryant Gumbel, Tim Robbins, Drew Carey and Spike Lee. More information is available at: www.strat-o-matic.com).
