The 1972 World Series was one of the most exciting ever, with the series going seven games, six of which were decided by just one run. Despite the plethora of superstar sluggers in Cincinnati’s lineup (Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Pete Rose and others), it was Oakland that emerged victorious, winning its first of what would be three consecutive World Series titles. The two teams met again in the 1990 World Series — but with a much different outcome, as Cincinnati swept the heavily favored Oakland squad in four games.
