Baseball Players of the Month and Pitchers of the Month (May 2017): Carlos Correa and Charlie Blackmon, Lance McCullers and Alex Wood

 Congratulations to the Baseball Players of the Month for May 2017, Carlos Correa and Charlie Blackmon, and to the Baseball Pitchers of the Month for April 2017, Lance McCullers and Alex Wood!

 
 
 
Carlos Correa wins his first player of the month as the shortstop explodes at the plate. A solid .386 with eight doubles, seven home runs, and 26 RBI. He won Rookie of the Month back in 2015, so consider this a graduation! He’s the first Astro to win Player of the Month since fellow infielder Jose Altuve won last June.
  
Charlie Blackmon led the NL in hits, batting average and triples, while sharing the lead in extra-base hits. The first Rockie to win since Nolan Arenado in 2015, Blackmon started the month strong, compiling a 7-game hit streak and powering the Rockies to a division lead in the NL West. 
 
 
Lance McCullers is the second Astros pitcher in a row to grab Pitcher of the Month honors, following Dallas Keuchel. He went 4-0 with a 0.99 ERA in six starts to keep the Astros roling along during their historic start. From a career perspective, McCullers has been ridiculous, particularly at home, going 26 starts while never allowing more than three runs. 
 
Alex Wood is the first Dodger to win the award since Clayton Kershaw last May and deservedly so. Wood went 5-0 with a 1.27 ERA, with a strikeout/walk ratio of 41:7 in 28.1 innings of work. He was first among qualifying NL starters in wins and ERA and did not surrender a home run.
