As part of baseball’s “Lou Gehrig Day” on June 2nd, Strat-O-Matic will be donating 10% of all sales on that date to The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter. Beginning May 31st, a new Gehrig simulation will run each day until Wednesday. On Monday, Gehrig participated in a HR Derby including teammate Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Roger Maris. Goslin enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He ripped a solo home run in the 1st inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd inning and banged out a single in the 7th inning. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning. The win was credited to George Brunet(1-0) who went 8 innings allowing no runs. Mike Fornieles got the save, his 1st. Blake Snell(0-1) was tagged with the loss.
The AL shuts out the NL team as Goose Goslin does all the damage on 2 homeruns. Goslin (who wore #4 as a member of the Detroit Tigers between 1934 and 1937) homered off Blake Snell (currently wearing #4 in San Diego, previously in Tampa Bay) in the 1st and 3rd innings. George Brunet (#4 for a brief stint with the Pirates) went 8 shutout innings while Mike Fornieles (debuted with Washington as #4 in 1952) got the save. Gehrig went 0-4 while playing 1B for the AL team.
