Walks counted as hits, though it took five balls to get one, and four strikes to whiff. Pitchers could no long hide the ball or get a running start, though batters could no longer call for high/low pitches. Seasons were 125+ games in the National League, 130+ in the American Association. The days of the one-man pitching staff were over. Batters were the beneficiaries. AA winner St. Louis scored 1,131 runs. P
