Baseball Seasons
1901 Baseball Windows Season
- The American League and modern baseball begin
- Nap Lajoie wins the Triple Crown
- Cy Young jumps leagues, wins 33
This is the beginning of Major League Baseball as we know it today – separate American and National leagues. And what a debut for the AL: Managers Connie Mack, John McGraw and Clark Griffith (who also won 24 games for the pennant-winning White Sox). Ex-NL stars Cy Young (33 wins), Joe McGinnity (26 wins) and Nap Lajoie, who hit .426 and won the Triple Crown, all defected and made the AL legit.
