Nine Hall of Fame players and 12 more from Strat-O-Matic’s Negro League Stars set are represented in this pitching-dominated season that featured nine 2-game winners.
With stats adjusted to a 140-game schedule, the champion Indianapolis ABCs had the league’s top pitcher in Dizzy Dizmukes (27-7, 1.51) and Dicta Johnson (24-9). But four other teams had the performances to win the pennant. The New York Stars had Dick Redding (27-12, 1.79) and Pop Lloyd (.307). The New York Giants had pitching duo Smokey Williams (26-9) and Ad Lankford (22-7) as well as batting-title runner-up Blainey Hall (.327), who trailed Cristobal Torriente’s .330 mark. Chicago had pitcher Dick Whitworth (21-14, 1.92) and HR leader Pete Hill. St. Louis pitcher John Donaldson posted a 1.79 ERA.
