Baseball Seasons
1923 Baseball Windows Season
- Yankees win first World Series in third straight Yanks-Giants championship
- “The House that Ruth Built” – Yankees Stadium opens to record crowds
- Heilmann’s .403 denies Ruth the Triple Crown
Evicted from the Polo Grounds in a spat of jealousy, the Yankees opened baseball’s palace – Yankee Stadium – then showed crowds of 62,000 how dominant they were. The Yankees won the pennant by 16 games, then won their first World Series. Babe Ruth crushed three homers in the Series after leading the AL with 41 (and 131 RBI), but his .393 batting average was short of the .403 by Detroit’s Harry Heilmann.
