1939 Baseball Windows Season
- Four of a kind: It’s totally Yankees for fourth straight year
- Farewell, Lou Gehrig
- Hello, Ted Williams: .327-31-145
No team had ever won four straight World Series. The Yankees did it with another sweep (of Cincinnati). They did it without Gehrig who, after 2,130 straight games, pulled himself out of the lineup, then retired with a rare illness that would later bear his name. Two years later, he was dead. But in the circle of baseball life, Gehrig’s departure coincided with Ted Williams’ spectacular rookie season for Boston.
