Full Summary

Some of the greatest names in football history were at the top of their games in 1959, the last season before the National Football League expanded and the American Football League began. This was the first season as head coach in Green Bay for legendary Vince Lombardi, and the Packers responded with a 7-5 record (after going 1-10-1 in 1958), just one year before appearing the NFL title game. Johnny Unitas threw 32 passes to Lenny Moore, Raymond Berry and others and their 9-3 Colts beat Frank Gifford’s 10-2 Giants in a rematch of the 1958 “Greatest-Game-Ever” title game. Jimmy Brown was the league’s dominant runner. Norm Van Brocklin starred as a passer and other Hall-of-Famers-to-be flourished.
