Hockey Seasons
1960-61 Hockey Windows Season
- One shining moment: Chicago’s only post-WWII Stanley Cup
- Achieving his goals: Geoffrion second to 50
- Mahovlich scores 48
In its first season without retired Rocket Richard, Montreal still had the league’s best record and the No. 1 offense, thanks to another RW, Bernie Geoffrion, equaling Richard’s record 50 goals. Incredibly, that was only one better than Toronto’s Frank Mahovlich, having his best season for the team with the best defense. But the glory belonged to surprising Chicago, with its young guns: Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Pierre Pilote and G Glenn Hall. After the Hawks upset Montreal in the playoffs and Detroit did the same to Toronto, Chicago won the first all-U.S. Stanley Cup finals since 1950.
