Hockey Seasons
1962-63 Hockey Windows Season
- Tough enough: Toronto tops in tightest tangle
- 4 playoff teams only 5 points apart
- Howe wins 6th, final scoring race, MVP award
No Original Six season ever was more competitive. Toronto returned to the top of the standings for the first time since 1958, but by only one point (82-81) over Chicago, three above Montreal and five ahead of Detroit. The Leafs showed their resilience by winning their second straight Stanley Cup by vanquishing Montreal and Detroit in 5 games each. Incomparable Gordie Howe led the NHL with 38 goals. His 86 points earned him his sixth scoring title and sixth MVP award. He would win neither again.
