Hockey Seasons
1971-72 Hockey Windows Season
- Bruins top Rangers for Cup
- Laughingstocks of the ‘60s now seriously good
- Esposito (66 goals), Orr (37 goals, 117 points)
For the first time since 1960, the top two regular-season teams faced off in the Stanley Cup finals. In the ‘60s, Boston and New York regularly were the only teams not to make the playoffs at all. Different now: Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr led Boston’s 119-point team and the NHL’s No. 1 offense. The Rangers’ Goal-A-Game (GAG) Line of Jean Ratelle, Vic Hadfield and Rod Gilbert joined defenseman Brad Park … Montreal, with new coach Scotty Bowman, had 108 points and Chicago 107.
