On the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins’ 17-0 season, Strat-O-Matic is making the 26-team NFL its second retro-season to offer all the teams in card form. (The full 1972 has long been available for Windows).
There is so much more than the Dolphins to thrill gamers. Joe Namath led the NFL in passing yards and his New York Jets were second in scoring. New Orleans’ Archie Manning led in total offense. Buffalo’s O.J. Simpson led in yards rushing. Philadelphia’s Harold Jackson led in receptions and receiving yards and teammate Bill Bradley led with nine interceptions. The Giants’ Jack Gregory led with 18 ½ sacks.
Seven teams won at least 10 of their 14 regular-season games: Miami (with FB Larry Csonka and the “53” defense); 11-3 Washington (QB Billy Kilmer, RB Larry Brown and WR Charley Taylor), the NFC’s Super Bowl entry; 11-3 Pittsburgh (QB Terry Bradshaw, FB Franco Harris and the Steel Curtain defense); 10-3-1 Oakland (QB Daryle Lamonica and WR Fred Biletnikoff); 10-4 Green Bay (FB John Brockington); 10-4 Dallas (RB Calvin Hill, DT Bob Lilly), and 10-4 Cleveland (HB Leroy Kelly).
