Hockey Seasons
1975-76 Hockey Windows Season
- Montreal wins record 58 and Cup
- Lafleur wins first of three straight scoring titles
- Rivals swap biggest stars: Phil Esposito for Ratelle, Park
If a hockey season can be a morality story, many consider this first of four straight Stanley Cups for the Canadiens a historic turning point. It ended the two-year reign of Philadelphia’s “Broad Street Bullies” and saw high-scoring finesse triumph over thuggery. The Islanders’ Bryan Trottier set rookie records with 63 assists and 95 goals. After the big Bruins-Rangers mid-season trade, Jean Ratelle became the first player to score 100 points for two franchises.
