Only three foes topped 21 points against a defense with LB Ted Hendricks, CB Willie Brown, S Jack Tatum and DT Otis Sistrunk.

QB Fran Tarkenton, HB Chuck Foreman (13 rush TDs, 55 catches, 1,722 yards total offense) and the Purple People Eater defense with Alan Page, Carl Eller and the NFL’s stingiest pass D took  the Vikings to the big game. They are among the heroes that include Baltimore QB Bert Jones (60% complete, 24 TDs, 9 Ints), Pittsburgh RB Franco Harris (1,128 yards and 14 TDs rushing), Buffalo RB O.J. Simpson (1,503 yards) and Chicago RB Walter Payton (1,390 yards, 13 TDs).
