Hockey Seasons
1978-79 Hockey Windows Season
- Canadiens win 4th straight Stanley Cup
- New York, New York: Rangers in finals, Isles are season champs
- Boston so-o-o close to upsetting Montreal in playoffs
Montreal was terrific again but the end to their latest dynasty was near. The New York Islanders had more points (116-115) in the regular season, scored the most goals, iced the best power play, the MVP and scoring leader (Bryan Trottier) and the top goal-scorer, Mike Bossy (69). The Habs needed a penalty by Boston for too many men on the ice to score a last-minute, Game 7-tying goal that kept them alive in the playoffs. And this was HOF goalie Ken Dryden’s last season.
