Boston’s return to prominence started with drafting Larry Bird and was cemented this year, when the Celtics drafted Kevin McHale and obtained Robert Parish in a trade. The new front line led Boston to 62 wins and a 7-game playoff semi-finals victory over 62-win Philly and Julius Erving. Moses Malone, the NBA’s leading rebounder and second leading scorer, lifted 40-42 Houston all the way to the NBA finals.
