- Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis top 1,500 yards rushing; Jerome Bettis 1,400
Nearly 30 years after Green Bay secured its “Title Town” status with its second straight Super Bowl under indomitable Vince Lombardi, brash gun-slinger QB Brett Favre led the Packers to a 13-3 record and their next Super Bowl title. With Favre throwing an amazing 39 touchdown passes, Green Bay led all teams with 456 points, but also had the best scoring defense, too (210 points). It took a team that good to dominate in a year when QB Steve Young led San Francisco to a 12-4 mark. In the AFC, Denver QB John Elway and RB Terrell Davis (1,538 rush yards) led with a 13-3 mark, but 11-5 New England had QB Drew Bledsoe, RB Curtis Martin, the No. 1 offense and the Super Bowl trip. Second-year Carolina and Jacksonville amazed all by making the playoffs.
