Hockey Seasons
1997-98 Hockey Windows Season
- Red Wings win 2nd straight Stanley Cup
- Capitals in Cup finals for first time
- Hasek first goalie to win multiple MVPs
Scores kept plummeting, making games closer and tougher. Jaromir Jagr’s league-best 102 points were the lowest in 30 years. No one on the deep championship team in Detroit was among the league’s top 20 scorers. Buffalo goalie Dominik Hasek’s 13 shutouts made a goalie the repeat MVP for the first time in NHL history. St. Louis’ 256 goals topped the NHL. Still, Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne (52), Washington’s Peter Bondra (52), Vancouver’s Pavel Bure (51) and Philly’s John LeClair (51) topped 50 goals.
